The concept of "The Modern Monk" bridges the gap between contemporary streetwear culture and the religious practices of monasticism. The name of the collection was chosen due to the intriguing contrast and divergence between these two themes. Each possesses distinct values, beliefs, clothing styles, and aesthetics. Ambush, known for their androgynous and provocative designs, challenges traditional ideas of binary concepts such as physical form and gender, transforming clothing into a canvas for unique artistic expression.
While monks may unknowingly convey aspects of their identity through their attire, their traditional garments leave little room for change or modernization. Despite being a religion that emphasizes the non-superficial, monastic temples are often adorned with lavish decorations, prominently featuring gold. This juxtaposition illustrates that even religions focused on transcending worldly matters still bear a responsibility to adhere to societal standards and exhibit opulence in their sacred spaces.
In today's market, the demand for uniqueness is expanding. Many individuals utilize contrast and color to convey emotions based on their mood. Consequently, factors such as design, comfort, and originality significantly influence purchasing decisions. Consumers seek greater variety in their wardrobes, and this is where my collection stands out. Influenced by diverse cultures, my unique collection appeals to customers who are eager to explore and engage with something new. Cultural diversity has taught them to appreciate and embrace both parallels and contrasts across civilizations.
Through my designs, I have drawn a connection between the traditional history of monks and Ambush's unconventional approach. I have reimagined the costumes from a century ago and incorporated them into a collection that embodies the essence of Ambush. Similar to the monks, I have endeavored to create a "new order" within the realm of predictability and reservation.
While the concept of a modern monk may not currently exist, it comes to life through wearing Ambush's new collection. By embracing these garments, one can embody the fusion of traditional and contemporary elements, becoming a representation of the modern monk.
